Industrial Oil Skimmers

For efficient oil recovery and removal

Oil skimmers remove floating oil, hydrocarbons, and other contaminants from water, process tanks, pits, and containment areas. By separating oil efficiently from water, they help improve operational efficiency, support environmental protection, and enable the recovery of valuable resources for reuse or disposal.

MINI-MAX Weir Skimmer

A lightweight, self-adjusting weir skimmer for tanks, pits, separators, and small water areas. Connects directly to vacuum trucks or self-priming pumps.

Key Features

  • Durable, low-maintenance construction for harsh industrial use
  • Self-adjusting weir lip that adapts to water movement automatically
  • Lightweight, shallow-draft design for confined industrial and coastal environments
  • 360° oil intake into a central hopper
  • No hydraulics or air needed; skimming depth is controlled by suction rate
  • Compatible with most self-priming pumps, including vacuum systems

Best for: oil pits, API separators, tanks, and small lagoons

TERRAPIN Oil Skimmer

A compact, self-adjusting weir skimmer for tanks, drains, sumps, and separators. Its 410 mm diameter fits through manholes and narrow access points.

Key features:

  • Self-adjusting weir sets skimming depth automatically based on pump speed (faster pumping sinks the weir for a deeper cut, slower pumping raises it for a finer skim)
  • 410 mm compact footprint for tight spaces
  • Top and bottom suction connections, for free-floating or suspended installation
  • Marine-grade stainless steel and oil-resistant polymers
  • Recovery capacity up to 10,000 L/h (44 US gpm)

Best for: tanks and industrial separators, drains, narrow sumps and wells, confined or hazardous areas, continuous process oil recovery

Belt/Brush Skimmers

The Octopus LSFO Skimmer is DESMI's next-generation recovery system specifically designed to handle the challenges of modern low-sulphur marine fuels.

The IMO 2020 regulations introduced lower-sulphur marine fuels, delivering environmental benefits but also creating new spill response challenges, as fuels such as LSFO, ULSFO, and VLSFO can be highly viscous, difficult to handle, and unpredictable during recovery operations. With traditional methods like dispersants and in-situ burning often proving less effective for these fuel types, mechanical recovery has become increasingly important, driving the development of the Octopus LSFO Skimmer to provide efficient and reliable recovery of modern low-sulphur marine fuels.

Octopus LSFO Skimmer

Key Features

  • Active oil recovery: Integrated hydraulic thrusters actively move oil toward the skimmer, increasing encounter rates and improving recovery efficiency, particularly for viscous and poor-flowing fuels.
  • Advanced brush technology: DESMI brush cassette technology is designed to capture and recover highly viscous oils and challenging modern low-sulphur fuel oils.
  • High-capacity transfer system: DESMI DOP Dual transfer pump delivers:
    • Up to 100 m³/h pumping capacity
    • Up to 13 bar discharge pressure
    • DNV-certified performance
    • Handles viscosities from 0 to over 1 million cSt
    • Dual discharge ports for easier maintenance
    • Integrated cutting knife at the pump inlet
  • Flexible deployment: Free-floating design allows standalone operation or integration into existing oil spill response systems.
  • Compatible with multiple systems:
    • Standalone recovery operations
    • DESMI Speed Sweep systems
    • RO-BOOM sweep systems
    • Inline skimmer configurations
  • Easy system upgrades: Can be incorporated into existing response equipment to enhance recovery capability without major infrastructure investments.
